Welcome to the Pleasant City.  Shelby’s population is approximately 22,000.  Shelby offers four Elementary Schools, an Intermediate School (5 & 6 grades), a Middle School (7 & 8 grades), and a High School (9 thru 12).  .  A private University, Gardner Webb, is located in west Shelby and has 4,300 students.  Shelby also has a two year college, Cleveland Community College.


The city of Shelby also has a Charter School and a Special Needs School.  Shelby has a hospital and many long term care options for it’s residents.  


Shelby’s Uptown Central Business District is a nationally registered historic district by the US Department of the Interior and is one of the most beautiful courthouse squares in the southeast.   Shelby's wide sidewalks are notorious for their signature large live oak trees, providing a shade and a great place to take a leisurely walk around the square.
